In the present paper, strategic choices in the international management of social responsibility are examined. The aim is to determine the relationship between global and local strategies in the enactment of corporate social responsibility by foreign subsidiaries in Brazil. The results show that multiple strategic choices are possible and the combination of a corporate strategy with local responsiveness and a globally aligned corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy provides better performance. It was concluded that adopting a globally aligned CSR strategy shows the best results because of institutional influences.
